Pentax launches eight digital cameras
Mumbai, Nov 21: Pentax, the Japan-based corporation, has announced the launch of eight digital cameras in various segments here.
The entry-level compact models, launched by Pentax, include Optio E 20, Optio M 20, Optio S 7, Optio T 20, Optio W 20 and Optio A 20, while dust-proof and water-proof models include K100D and K10D.
The entry-level compact models of Pentax are priced between Rs 10,000 and Rs 25,000 while the digital SLR water-proof and dust-proof models are priced from Rs 40,000 to over Rs 60,000, a Company press release here said. The cameras have effective megapixels of 6 at the entry level to 10.2 for the latest dust-free and water-resistant Pentax K10D.
Pentax K10D, launched in Mumbai last Saturday, is being introduced for the first time globally, ahead of its launch in Japan on November 29, informed Pentax president Fumio Urano in the press release.
''Our confidence in the Indian market for digital cameras stems from the fact that there is increasing penetration of computers in households, which facilitates the sales of digital cameras,'' Mr Urano said.
Market for digital cameras in India is set grow by around 100 per cent from the current level of 500,000 units. Last year, digital camera sales were around 375,000 units within 5-6 players, the Pentax release said.
''We plan to increase our market share in the digital camera segment from the current level of 5 per cent to 10,'' Mr Urano said.
