Opposition stall proceedings in Orissa Assembly
Bhubaneswar, Nov 21 (UNI) The Opposition in Orissa Assembly today stalled the proceedings, demanding debate on their adjournment notice on ''mafia raj in Jagatsinghpur''.
Shouting slogans against Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, the Opposition trooped into the well when Deputy Speaker Prahalad Dora, ignoring their plea for taking up the adjournment motion, switched over to submission.
As pandemonium continued with the entire Opposition occupying the well, the Deputy Speaker, finding no option to run the proceedings, adjourned the House for one hour till 1300 hours.
The House reassembled to be adjourned till 1500 hours for lunch amid shouting of slogans by Opposition members.
The trouble began when the Congress members, rising on point of order, drew the attention of the chair about their notice on the adjournment motion on the ''mafia raj in Jagatsinghpur'' and firing incident.
The Opposition demanded that all other business of the House be suspended to take up their adjournment motion considering the importance of the matter and the deteriorating law and order situation in Jagatsinghpur.
When all their pleas turned futile, they rushed to the well and started raising slogan ''Naveen Patnaik down down''. The Deputy Speaker tried to take up the submission but in vain. He was then forced to adjourn the house for one hour and then for the lunch.
