Srinagar, Nov 21: To thwart the infiltration attempts from across the border and curb the militant movement, the authorities have extended the night curfew in the border belt and restrictions under section 144 in other areas of the frontier district of Kupwara in Jammu and Kashmir for two more months.

The authorities have imposed night curfew in the entire five km border belt to thwart any militant attempt to sneak into this side from Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (POK).

There are also restriction on the movement of people during the night in the other areas of twin border districts of Kupwara and Baramulla.

These restrictions have been imposed to curb the movement of militants under the cover of darkness during the night.

The authorities and Army authorities have advised people to use lantern or torches when they venture out of their houses during the night in case of any emergency.

However, about a dozen people have lost their lives after they were fired upon by the security forces during the night due to mistaken identity.

The killings led to massive protests as people after every incident alleged that the firing by the security forces was without any warning.

However, the Army and other security forces always maintained that those killed were trying to ran away after being asked to stop.
