Naveen announces new wages for workers

Bhubaneswar, Nov 21 (UNI) Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today announced a revision of wages for different category of workers in Orissa.

As per new rates of wages, an unskilled labourer would now get Rs 70 per day while that of semi-skilled worker would receive Rs 80 per day. The skilled labourer will be paid a minimum wage of Rs 90 and Rs 100 per day is set for high skilled category worker.

Making a statement in this regard in the state Assembly, Mr Patnaik said the government had revised the minimum wages on the recommendation of the State Minimum Wage Advisory Board.

He said a notification for new wages would be issued shortly after completion of necessary formalities, which would take at least two months.

The Chief Minister also announced to revise the standard schedule of rates for earth work under the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS).

Mr Patnaik said the National Institute of Technology (NIT) at Rourkela had made certain recommendation revising the out turn of workers engaged in NREGS.

He said the government had decided to reduce the outturn for skilled manual labpourer engaged in earth work in NREGS. With the new announcement, the unskilled manual workers in 19 of the total 39 districts engaged in earth work under the NREGS would be immensely benefited.
