Mizo govt invites TV channels to promote tourism

Aizawl, Nov 21: Mizoram tourism department today said they have invited television channels like National Geography and Discovery to showcase the diverse natural wealth of the North Eastern region.

Tourism officials here said the NE states have rich natural resources and wildlife and to promote the region's tourism the department had invited these channels to highlight them in their programmes, sources said.

The further said the Animal Planet had been showing a programme on bamboo flowering and its impact across the NE states.

The initiative was taken following the experiences in Kamakhya temple (Guwahati), Shillong, Itanagar and Aizawl as people from all over the world come to spend their holidays.

The states suggested incentives to the taxi drivers to take tourists from one spot in the region to another.

'' We used to get many tourists from West Bengal but since last few years we were experincing a heavy decline in their number,'' official sources said.
