Miscreants loot eight idols and ornaments

Kendrapada, Nov 21 (UNI) Miscreants have looted eight idols, including an asthadhatu idol of Nrushinghanath and Radhakrushna, 45 kg of silver ornaments besides some gold ornaments from Nrusighnath temple at Taradapada village under Jagatsinghpur police station.

Police said the incident came to the light when one, Narendra Panda, a resident of the village, saw the doors of temple unlocked.

Later, he brought the matter before the villagers. One Nalini Srichandan, and the priest of the temple had lodged an FIR in the Jagatsinghpur police station.

According to the priest of the temple large number of devotees thronged to the temple on Saturday last to witness the Sunabesha of the Lord Nrushinghnath.

The priest said he had allowed the devotees to witness the Lord through the grill door and so did not close the main gate. The miscreants, broke the grill door of the temple and looted the idol and the ornaments.

Meanwhile, Jagatsinghpur Superintendent of Police Y K Jethua said police had sought the help of sniffer dog squads and scientific squad from Cuttack to help them in the investigation and to nab the miscreants.

A couple of honey sellers had also in the past looted the said asthadhatu idol of Nrushinghanath and Radha Krushna.

Later, police seized the idol, while the two accused had tried to sell the idol at Dhanamandal bazaar.
