IA make exit; BSF, PSB, IOC, Punjab Police move into last 8

New Delhi, Nov 21 (UNI) Defending champions Indian Airlines crashed out after playing a 1-1 draw with BSF Jalandhar who booked a berth in the quarterfinals alongside Punjab Police, Punjab and Sind Bank and Indian Oil in the 43rd Nehru Cup hockey tournament here today.

In their must-win tie today, Indian Airlines displayed no urgency and it was BSF team that took the lead in the 21st minute through Mandeep Singh. John Jojo drew parity for IA in the 25th minute.

Earlier, formidable Punjab and Sind Bank made a mincemeat of SAI XI blanking the latter 6-0 to advance to the quarterfinals after topping Pool C. Ranjwinder Singh pumped in three while Mandeep Singh scored a brace for the winners.

From Pool B, both India Oil and Punjab Police advanced to the next stage after playing a goalless draw.
