HC directs government to file report on absconders

Patna, Nov 21 (UNI) Patna High Court today directed the Bihar government to file progress report within five weeks on execution of warrants of arrest issued by various courts in connection with kidannaping and extortion cases in the state.

A division bench of the court comprising Chief Justice J N Bhatt and Justice Shailesh Kumar Sinha issued the directive during the hearing of a Public Interest Litigation petition filed in this connection.

Earlier, Inspector General of CID, Arun Chandra Verma had filed an affidavit stating an action plan of the state police to reduce the number of absconders in connection with kidnapping and extortion cases.

Dissatisfied with the affidavit, the court asked the state police to accelerate the execution of warrants and file a progress report within five weeks.
