First Haj flight to take off on Nov 25
Kozhikode,Nov 21 (UNI) The first flight carrying devotees to the Holy city of Mecca in Saudi Arabia for 2007 Haj pilgrimage would take off from the Karippur International Airport near here on November 25.
The devotees going for the pilgrimage under official quota are required to report to the airport by 2000 hrs on November 24, Haj Committee Executive Officer and District Collector A Jayathilak said in a statement here.
This year's official quota comprised of 7,665 pilgrims, including three infants, Haj Camp Convenor Muhammed Koya told UNI.
He said they were selected out of a total 14,564 applicants.
They will be flown to the holy city by the official carrier Air India in 17 sorties till December 7, he said, adding every flight would be manned by one or two government volunteers, who will be responsibile for looking after the welfare of the pilgrims.
