Mumbai, Nov 21 (UNI) Samawadi Party general secretary Amar Singh today warned the Congress against ''harassing'' superstar Amitabh Bachchan and his family.

Citing recent Income Tax department notices to the superstar, embroilment of Jaya Bachchan in the office-of-profit matter and now raising a hue and cry over an award to Abhishek by the Uttar Pradesh government, Mr Singh said if such harassment continues, Bachchan will be forced to break his silence.

''We do not want to make use of the superstar in politics as was done by Congress in 1984 to defeat senior politician late H N Bahuguna,'' Mr Singh said while talking to reporters here.

Mr Singh said the Congress was unnecessarily contorting the issue pertaining to the award to Abhishek. Apart from Abhishek, cricketer Mohammad Kaif is among the eleven people who were awarded by the UP government for their achievements and Abhishek immediately donated his award money of Rs five lakh to an institution which is dedicated to the promotion of the Hindi language, Mr Singh added.
