Discoms should be covered under RTI Act: Mukhi
New Delhi, Nov 21 (UNI) Leader of Opposition in Delhi Assembly Jagdish Mukhi today said issues like bringing private power distribution companies in the city under the purview of the RTI Act should be sorted out before the state government could think about renewing its contract beyond April next year.
In spite of the fact that the Delhi government held 49 per cent equity in the Discoms, official audit was not applicable to them, Mr Mukhi said while enumerating 13 points that he felt needed to be sorted out before contracts of the Discoms could be extended.
The practice of imposing ''fixed charges'' in addition to energy charges should be immediately dispensed with besides the Discoms should levy ''flat rate tariff'' on the lines of MTNL, he suggested.
He also sought that in public interest ''independent persons'' should be nominated to the Boards of Discoms.
Mr Mukhi demanded that the report of Delhi Assembly's Public Accounts Committee on power privatisation should be handed over to the CBI for investigation.
The Indian Institute of Public Administration that was reviewing privatisaiton of power in 12 states should also study Delhi's case, he said.
