Couple assaulted, one killed

Jamnagar, Nov 21 (UNI) An elderly couple, staying in an isolated farm, was allegedly attacked by a farm-hand last night, leaving the woman dead and her husband seriously injured.

The deceased, Nathiben Gagabhai Chavda (63), was staying with her husband Gagabhai Rajashi Chavda at their farm in Samor village, about 68 km from here.

The accused, Chhagan, was relieved from the job four days ago.

Last night, he came carrying a sharp-edged iron tool and attacked Nathiben, killing her on the spot. He then removed the ear-rings and while trying to make a getaway he was cornered and attacked by Gagabhai. However, Chhagan attacked him and grievously injured him.

He was rushed in serious condition to civil hospital at Jamnagar. No arrest has been made so far, police said.
