Itanagar, Nov 21 (UNI) The Arunachal Pradesh government has directed concerned authorities to take stern action against encroachers on government land.

Any officer failing to carry out the directive would not be spared by the government as a monthly action taken report has been sought for the perusal of the authorities, informed official sources here today.

While encroachment had resulted in haphazard growth of various towns, particularly the state capital, it had left no room for planned development besides resulting in huge loss of revenue for the land management department.

According to land management department director E Nangkar, the state government had been losing huge revenue as people have set up business establishments on illegally occupied land without paying any tax, while they were earning reasonable income. Estate officers have been appointed under the Arunachal Pradesh Public Premises (Eviction of Unauthorised) Act, 2003, who are circle officers, sub-divisional officers, extra assistant commissioners and additional deputy commissioners in their respective jurisdiction, while the deputy commissioners are appellate authorities.
