Kargil, Nov 21: A porter, working with the Army, was buried alive under a snow avalanche after heavy snowfall in Drass sector of Ladakh region in Jammu and Kashmir.

Official sources told UNI that a porter identified as Kulbir Khatri, a resident of Rokum, Nepal, came under a huge snow avalanche near Mushkoo valley when he was on way to a forward army post.

However, he died before rescue teams could reach the spot sources said.

They said the Mushkoo valley, which hit the headlines during Kargil war in 1999 after Pakistani intruders occupied almost all heights in the sector, experienced about three feet of snowfall.

The forward posts had about four to five feet of snowfall during the past one week, resulting in considerable drop in the temperature.
