APCC urges EC, Govt to conduct inquiry
Hyderabad, Nov 21 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) today urged the Election Commission(EC) and the state government to order a thorough inquiry into the seizure of cricket kits and cash meant for alleged distribution to voters in Karimnagar.
Terming the incident as a conspiracy hatched by the Telangana Rastra Samithi (TRS) to gain political mileage, APCC official spokespersons P Venkata Rao and N Tulasi Reddy, talking to newspersons said the Congress had nothing to do with it.
They alleged that the incident was a plot created by TRS leaders including Siddipet MLA Harish Rao, a relative of TRS President Chandrasekhara Rao to malign the Congress.
Meanwhile, the duo assured that the Congress would protect the interests of lakhs of beedi workers.
Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy and PCC chief K Keshava Rao had already approached the Union Health Minister and Labour Minister for a review on the issue regarding GO 297 to save the beedi workers.
They said the two TRS leaders including Ex MP Metpalli G Chandra Sekhara Rao and ten Telugu Desam Party leaders of Karimnagar district would join the Congress in the presence of AICC General Secretary Digvijay Singh and PCC President Keshava Rao at a function to be held in Karimnagar tomorrow.
