Aizawl under JNNURM scheme

Aizawl, Nov 21 (UNI) Aizawl has been selected among several other Indian cities for a renovation project under the Jawarharlal Nehru New Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) scheme.

''With an estimated Rs 1,00,000 crore, the project would include construction of roads, flyovers and tunnels,'' official sources said here.

The officials also said a blue-print of the project report would be sent to the Centre. The funds for the project would be made available by the Urban Development Ministry.

The Centre has already informed Chief Minister Zoramthanga about the decision, official sources said.

Mr Zoramthanga has also persuaded the Planning Commission to sanction Rs 758 crore for the State Annual Plan for 2006-07, which is about 73 per cent more against the current fiscal.

The Centre has also sanctioned an additional 12 per cent funds to the NE states for the Rs 80,000 housing loan scheme per person.

The Home secretary has also assured the expeditious removal of the Assam Rifles from here to the outskirts of Zohawsang areas after Mr Zoramthanga assured to provide water supply there.
