Action to be taken against school management: Edu Minister

Chennai, Nov 21 (UNI) Tamil Nadu School Education Minister Thangam Thennarasu today said action would be taken against the management of the government-aided school at Omallur, where a girl student was found dead last Saturday.

Talking to reporters after chairing a review meeting here, he said suitable action would be taken after receipt of the reports from the RDO and the police.

The Joint Director of the School Education, who had visited the school and held inquiry into the accident had submitted a report to the Ministry. ''Actions would be taken based on his report'', the Minister added.

Mr Thennarasu said the watchman of the school, Arul Nayagam, and office assitant Kumar, were suspended, while the school Headmistress Mary Alphonsa and hostel warden, where the girl stayed, Loured Mary, were transferred from their present post.

The 12th standard student, Suganya, staying in the hostel, was reported missing on November 16 and her body was found floating in the school well two days later.

The incident drew violent protests and the locals, faulting the school management for the incident, went on rampage and ransacked the school and set fire to the computer room.
