Runaway Jaipur couple attempt suicide in Chandigarh

Chandigarh, Nov 20 (UNI) A runaway couple from Jaipur attempted to commit suicide by consuming insecticides in a local hotel, police said today.

Anup Kumar, 24, and Sofia Qureshi, 21, who had apparently eloped from Rajasthan capital in the face of opposition to their inter-religious marriage, reached here last evening and checked into Uttaranchal Guest House.

They were found in an inconscious state in their room by the hotel staff this morning, who immediately informed the police.

They were rushed to the Government hospital where their condition was stated to be critical.

According to police, though no proof regarding their marital status were recovered, the girl was wearing bridal jewellery.
