Rajasthan govt, Israeli co tie-up for olive cultivation

Jaipur, Nov 20 (UNI) Rajasthan government has signed agreement with an Israeli company for providing technical knowhow for olive cultivation.

Rajasthan State Agricultural Marketing Board (RSAMB) signed the MoU on Saturday with Israel-based Indolive Ltd and Indian major Plastro Plasson Industries (India) Ltd, with each of the partners having 33 per cent of share capital of Rs 4.5 crores.

While Indolive will provide the technical knowhow for growing olives, the Indian company will provide 500,000 dollars as investment. RSAMB will also invest 500,000 dollars in share capital and further 700,000 dollars out of its Kisan Kalyan Kosh for infrastructure.

Olives will be grown in 10 different state's agricultural farms covering a total area of 210 hectares.

State agriculture minister Prabhulal Saini said this olive cultivation agreement will be a milestone for farmers of Rajasthan.

The Israeli company Indolive has been successful in growing olives in Negev desert of Israel through drip irrigation.

Mr Saini said Rajasthan has climatic conditions akin to Israel and large tracts of desert areas can be utilised for olive cultivation.

Indolive will try to grow such olive which can sustain higher levels of heat in Rajasthan as compared to Mediterranean climate.

Olive oil is a very highly priced oil and is in much demand in the international market.
