Nitish kicks off "Chief Minister road construction" scheme

Patna, Nov 20 (UNI) Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today kicked off 'Chief Minister rural roads&culvert construction scheme' in the state.

Laying the foundation stone of the bridge on river Punpun and Dardha at Fatuha, Mr Kumar said once the scheme was completed, it would facilitate smooth road communication for people in the remote areas of the state.

The bridges would be completed by December 2007 and over Rs 6,54,000 would be spent for bridge construction on river Punpun and about Rs 1,88,000 for construction of bridge on river Dardha.

He said apart from improving the communication facilities by expanding road network, the government would connect even small areas with the state capital saying that no area would be allowed to remain backward in his regime.

Mr Kumar said Bihar was the first state to announce prize for the farmers for their yields. Rs one lakh 'Kisan Shree' award has been declared for selected farmers at the block level.

He said 'Kisan Bhushan,' with a cash prize of Rs 2 lakh, at district level and 'Kisan Ratna', an award of Rs five lakh, would be given to selected farmers at the state level.
