Maoists attack former sympathiser in AP village
Warangal, Nov 20 (UNI) CPI (Maoist) activists shot at a former sympathiser of the party and a teacher from close range branding him as a police informer late last night.
Police today said 42-year-old Aavula Kattaiah working as a teacher in Devannapet village under Hasanparti mandal in this district of Andhra Pradesh was woken up from his sleep by two armed Maoists well past midnight and asked to follow them.
He was taken out and shot at from close range. Though the bullet pierced his chest, he escaped death as it brushed aside his heart.
The Naxals left a note behind, saying that they had shot Kattaiah as he was acting as a police informer.
Police, who reached the spot immediately on being informed by the family members, rushed the victim to the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Hospital at Warangal and later shifted him to the Nizam's Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) at Hyderabad.
Doctors at the NIMS said the condition of Kattaiah was stable and responding to treatment.
