Malaria claims 109 lives in Mizoram
Aizawl, Nov 20 (UNI) Mizoram health department today said malaria has claimed at least 109 lives in the state so far this year.
According to Health Deputy Director (Malaria) Dr Malsawma, the figure was highest as compared the last five years. Aizawl recorded 55 deaths, highest in the state.
However, he said more urban people fell victim to the disease while there was a drastic decline in malarial deaths in rural areas.
He also said, ''the rural people made maximum use of drug distribution centres established in every village where anti-malaria drugs were distributed free.'' He said based on the population density, Mizoram had the highest number of malaria deaths in the country this year.
