Lakhs converge in Chitrakoot for Somvati Amavasya
Chitrakoot, Nov 20: Pilgrims thronged the ancient religious site here for a holy bath in Mandakini on the auspicious occasion of 'Somvati Amavasya' today.
District Magistrate Radha Krishna Singh said this year a record breaking number of pilgrims ''submerged themselves'' in the worship of Lord Ram as on November 10, a stream of milk was seen flowing within the Mandakini river.
After taking the holy dip, people performed 'parikrama' of the Kamadgiri and offered prayers to Lord Ram.
With the threat of terror looming large on all religious sites, local police has been pressed into round the clock service.
According to Hindu mythology, thousands of years ago, Tulsidas was blessed with the 'darshan' of Lord Ram at the religious site this day.
People also believe that on this day, deities Ram, Sita along with Lakshman take a holy dip in Mandakini and bless the devout with all the prosperity and riches in life.
