Kalam to inaugurate R
New Delhi, Nov 20 (UNI) President A P J Abdul Kalam will inaugurate the second global conference on 'India R&D 2006- Mind to Market', which will be held here from December 4-6.
The conference to be organised by Department of Science and Technology (DST) and Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) will showcase India as a suitable Research and Development destination, with emphasis on the importance of commercialising R&D and its benefits.
''By providing cutting-egde research and development, India is moving up the value chain. Though the scope of R&D seems to be positive but certain areas needs attention like stronger interaction between the academics and industry, need for more faculty for its research institutes and improvement of R&D in the manufacturing sector and some basic infrastructural developments,'' said DST Secretary T Ramasami.
According to UNCTAD report, India has been defined as a place where companies can tap into existing networks of scientific networks and technical expertise, which has good links to academics research facilities.
Some of the multinationals that have set up R&D centers in the country are Motorola, Intel, AstraZeneca, Eli Lilly and GE.
