Sankararaman murder case posted to Dec 6

Puducherry, Nov 20: Puducherry Second Additional District and Sessions Judge Annamalai today posted the hearing of the Sankararaman murder case, in which Kanchi Acharyas Jayendra Saraswathi and Vijayendra Saraswathi are the prime accused, to December 6.

The case was transferred to the Second Additional Court as the Puducherry Principal District and Sessions Judge M Chinnapandy, who was hearing the case, was on leave.

When the case came up for a hearing, 17 out of the total 24 accused, including the prime accused, failed to turn up in the court.

While the court was informed that the vehicle carrying nine accused lodged in the Cuddalore prison was on the way, seperate petitions were filed citing reasons for the absence of other eight accused.

With regard to this, the Judge posted the case for a hearing to December 6.

Earlier, the proceedings of the case were stayed by the Supreme Court on a Special Leave Petition (SLP) filed by the defence on the continued appearance of the Tamil Nadu Special Public Prosecutor in the case in the Union Territory.

The SLP is still pending in the apex court.
