Haryana ranked 2nd in per hectare fish yield
Chandigarh, Nov 20 (UNI) Haryana is ranked second in the country in per hectare fish production which had touched 4579 kg per hectare last year as against the national average of 2260 kg per hectare per year.
In addition to enhancing productivity, fish culture practices have become popular with the farmers in the state.Village panchayats are earning more than Rs 300 lakh per year as lease money of village ponds for fish culture Informing this, an official spokesman for the Fisheries Department said during the current financial year, till the month of September, the area under fish culture had gone upto 10,584.43 hectares as against a total of 10,532 hectare during the last financial year.
The fish seed stock during the current fiscal year was 2978.62 lakh and fish seed production was 2251.85 lakh. The fish production till September end was 29,751 tonne.
The spokesman said a number of schemes had also been initiated for development of fisheries in the state. These included Intensive Fisheries Development Programme costing Rs 190 lakh, the purpose of which was to sustain fish culture.
