Eight candidates in fray for bypoll
Vizianagaram, Andhra Pradesh, Nov 20 (UNI) Eight candidates were left in fray for by-election to Bobbili Lok Sabha constituency in Andhra Pradesh, after the last day of withdrawal of nomination today, Election Returning Officer and District Collector B Kishore said.
The candidates are B Jhansi Lakshmi (Indian National Congress), K Appala Naidu (Telugu Desam Party), P Sanyasi Raju (Bharatiya Janata Party), M Somunaidu, L Seshibabu, S Sambaiah, P Lakshmi Rani and N Seshukumar (all independents).
The arrangements for the bypoll was reviewed by Visakha Range Inspector General of Police B L Meena and Deputy Inspector General Govind Singh today. They also reviewed the security arrangements being made for Bobbili constituency in Etcherla, Ranasthalam Laveru and Ponduru mandals.
Meanwhile, the government appointed M N Vidyasagar and Ashish Srivastava as general observers for the bypoll and K K Armugam as expenditure observer.
Mr Kishore said as many as 1,072 polling centres would be set-up in Bobbili parliament constituency for the ensuing bypoll and 5,890 polling staff would be deployed for the smooth conduct of the by-election.
