Dalit groom assaulted as police look on: Dalit outfit
Jaipur, Nov 20 (UNI) A dalit organisation today claimed that a bridegroom of the community was assaulted during his marriage procession in the presence of district and police officials here who ignored the incident.
At a news conference, the organisation said on November two, one Mukesh Kumar Raigarh, 23, of Med village reached Bihajar village in Virat Nagar tehsil of this district for his marriage. But when he climbed on the horse, members of the high caste allegedly pelted them with stones, and beat him up, forcing Mukesh to alight from the horse.
Accoeding to the dalit group, the incident occurred in the presence of the sub-dvisional magistrate and police officials of the area, who remained mute spectators.
Stating that this is the sixth such incident in Bihajar village, Dalits of Med and Bihajar villages demanded that the accused be arrested immediately. Akhil Bharatiya Raigar Mahasabha general secretary K L Kamal said only three people had been arrested so far while the others were free.
He said the police refused to lodge an FIR initially but did so on November 4. Although 16 people are named in the FIR, only three have been arrested.
