Tirupati, Nov 20(UNI) The Congress Government's lapses, corruption, and farmers suicides, among other issues could be the main plank of the Bharatiya Janata Party(BJP) in the 2009 assembly elections, its newly elected Andhra Pradesh President B Dattatreya today asserted.

Talking to newspersons here today, he said the people rely on the party's agitation on separate Statehood for Telangana, and alleged that the Congress and Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) were misleading the people on Telangana issue to consolidate their vote bank.

The BJP leader said that the party would contest the next assembly elections alone, as he is expecting the emergence of new political trends in the next elections.

He said that his party favoured smaller states.

Alleging that about 3,800 farmers had committed suicide during the last two and half year of Congress rule, he said this was more than the 3000 during the TDP regime.

He also charged the Congress Government with failing to take up rehabilitation programmes in flood-affected areas and demanded the Government to announce Rs 5,000 per acre under rehabilitation scheme to the farmers, whose lands were badly affected in the recent floods, as against Rs 750 per acre announced by the Government.

He said the party was not against the take over of all assignment lands, allegedly taken over by Ramoji Film City, but the Government should not target one individual only and should also take steps to nab other wrong-doers.
