BJP accuses CPI(M) of maintaining silence on Mullaiperiyar
Chennai, Nov 20: The BJP in Tamil Nadu today accused the CPI(M) of maintaining a stoic silence on the vexed Mullaiperiyar dam issue with Kerala, where the CPI(M) was in power.
Talking to reporters here, BJP State General Secretary Thamizhisai Soundararajan said the CPI(M) here could play a key role in solving the issue by influencing its leaders in Kerala.
''Being the party in power in Kerala and wielding enough influence at the Centre, where it has been providing outside support to the UPA Government at the Centre, the CPI(M) could well play a good role in solving the issue'', she said.
''Instead the Party had been launching agitations in Tamil Nadu in protest against the price rise, for which it was also responsible'', she charged.
Ms Thamizhisai also urged the state government to order a high level probe into the mysterious death of a school girl at Omalur, which resulted in ransacking of the school premises by the local people.
She also wanted the government to appoint counsellors in the schools to enable the students to vent their grievances against the teachers without any fear.
