Anand wins Tal Memorial blitz title in Moscow
New Delhi, Nov 20 (UNI) Viswanathan Anand once again proved his superiority in rapid chess by registering a magnificent start-to-finish victory to clinch the Tal Memorial blitz title in Moscow.
Anand did not lose a single mini-match and won the title with a two-point lead over his nearest rival and joint winner last year Levon Aronian of Armenia.
Aronian, Peter Leko and Ruslan Ponomariov were the joint winners of the last edition.
The tournament, which concluded yesterday, had 18 participants, all rated 2650 or higher, in a double round robin format.
At the end of the main event there was a very strong blitz tournament, with nine players from the main tournament, three special invitees and six top finishers from a blitz qualifier.
Anand took the lead at a very early stage, and ended the tournament with a victory with a round to spare. In the end he had not lost a single mini-match.
