Videocon eyes Darjeeling
Siliguri(West Bengal), Nov 19 (UNI) After taking over the Kanchan unit and acquiring land for Special Economic Zone(SEZ) now Videocon group is eyeing the Darjeeling.
Chairman of Videocon Group Venugopal Dhoot told UNI, "I made a proposal to West Bengal government urging for new land at Darjeeling. I wish to develop Darjeeling as a commercial hub." He also said that he urged for 20,000 acres of land, where he would like to establish 'a new Darjeeling' with all new features.
However, he said there would be no establishment from his company.
He would develop the infrastructure to get the investors from different parts of country and world.
About the SEZ land at Siliguri or adjoining areas, Mr Dhoot said that today he had visited a place at Fulbari and was keen to get the land there.
West Bengal Municipal Affairs and Urban Develoopment Minister Asok Bhattacharya told UNI that land would he taken by the Siliguri Jalpaiguri Development Authority and then it handed over to the Videocon authority.
