Tamil Nadu, Punjab make merry in Coochbehar U-19
Jamshedpur, Nov 19 (UNI) Tamil Nadu were all set to clinch an outright victory over Uttar Pradesh in the Cooch behar Trophy (U-19) Elite Group-A tie at Keenan stadium here today.
Resuming at 296/6 on the penultimate day, Tamil Nadu were all out for 384 in the first innings, overnight batsmen K M Sanjeev and V Yomaesh scored 61 and 32 runs while Uttar Pradesh spinner Md. Khalid returned with 72/5.
In reply, Uttar Pradesh were bundled out for paltry 97 in their first innings, trailing by 287 runs. Tail-ender Haseen Ahmed was the top scorer for UP with 19 runs.
R. Pandyaraj and V Yomahesh took 4 and 3 wickets conceding 27 and 22 run respectively.
Tamil Nadu asked to follow on and Uttar Pradesh were 42/3 at stumps.
In another match, Punjab made merry against the ordinary bowling of Maharashtra scoring 363/9 and took a 170-run first innings lead.
The highlight of Punjab innings was a fine century by Vipen Kumar (136), studded with 13 fours and eight sixes. Sabarjit Singh also score 70 runs hitting nine four and two sixes. P Deshetty took 74/3 while S Mundhe got two for 24.
