Suitcase left behind by couple causes flutter at airport
Chennai, Nov 19: An unclaimed suitcase created flutter among officials especially the security and passengers at Kamaraj domestic airport here today.
Police said the suitcase, found at the car parking area, drew the attention of some drivers who parked their vehicles there. They informed the matter to the airport duty manager, who in turn alerted the police. A police team, along with the bomb detection squad, removed the suitcase from the spot and opened it in the presence of higher officials. However, they found gold jewellery of about 40 sovereigns and other personal belongings in the suitcase.
Meanwhile, a man and his wife came in a car to the parking area and were seen anxiously searching for something. When the drivers asked them about it, the couple told them that they came from US via Mumbai and in the hurry to catch a train to Tirupati, they had left the suitcase behind while boarding a taxi at the airport.
They met the airport Deputy Manager Mr Elumalai, who verified the credential of the passengers. After obtaining an undertaking from them, he handed over the suitcase to them, police added.
