'Smokie' on Charity Music tour

Aizawl, Nov 19 (UNI) Smokie, a 1975 west Yorkshire rock band, will be performing live in Mizoram to raise funds for the Spastic Society of the state on November 24.

The band had signed a contract with the Greyhound Finance to perform here giving a miss to Mumbai and Banglore.

The band would be arriving at Kolkata on November 22 and leave for Aizawl the same day, sources said.

The programme would be a charity show for the Spastics Society, which runs several institutions across the state.

Concert's coordinator Joe R K Thanga said '' The Band will be meeting and interacting with the spastic children studying at Cilead School in Chhinga Veng here.'' '' They are even planning to spend a day with them,'' he added.

The band had already started its Australasian tour from the Shellbarbour Workers Club in Sydney on November 17 and would be performing in Australia, Singapore and Kuala Lumpur.

Smokie, the british rock band famous for its number, 'Living next door to Alice', have the strongest team so far with Mike craft (lead vocal, guitar), Uttley (supporting vocal bass), Mic Mcconnell (supporting vocal, lead guitar), Martin Bullar (keyboard) and Steve Pinnel (drums and percussion), the organisers claimed.

The band had sold over 30 million CDs, records and albums with about 13 top-20 hits during the 1970s, they added.
