President, PM pay tributes to Indira Gandhi

New Delhi, Nov 19 (UNI) The nation today remembered Indira Gandhi on her 89th birth anniversary as President APJ Abdul Kalam, Vice President Bhairon Singh Shekhawat and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh offered floral tributes to the late Prime Minister at various functions in the capital.

A wreath was placed on behalf of Dr Kalam at the Shakti Sthal Memorial, while Mr Shekhawat, Dr Singh and Congress President Sonia Gandhi visited the samadhi and offered floral tributes.

Home Minister Shivraj Patil, Delhi Lieutenant Governor B L Joshi, Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit and Mr Rahul Gandhi also offered floral tributes at the Shakti Sthal as religious hymns were played in the background.

The Prime Minister and other leaders also attended functions held at the memorial at 1, Akbar Road, and the Central Hall of Parliament.

Ms Gandhi's birth anniversary is celebrated as National Integration Day.
