Paramour held for girl's suicide

Nagpur, Nov 19 (UNI) A paramour was today arrested by the police after a girl with whom he was having an affair, committed suicide by allegedly immolating herself in village Gangaldoh in Katol tehsil of the district.

Police said they have apprehended Pitambar Devaji Gaikwad (23) on the charge of abetment of suicide when Sujata Bapurao Dhoke (17) died in a hospital here yesterday due to burns. The girl doused kerosene on her body and set herself ablaze in her home on Tuesday last. In the incident, Sujata had sustained 90 per cent burn injuries.

Pitambar and Dhoke were in love and had decided to get married.

He was pressurising the girl to get married. However, Sujata wanted to wait for a year as she was minor. Constant coercion by Pitambar affected her mentally, forcing her to take the drastic step, police added.
