NEC-funded bodies to be transferred to Centre
Aizawl, Nov 19: The Centre in the North Eastern Council (NEC) meeting in New Delhi has decided to transfer all the NEC funded institutions to the concerned ministry.
According to official sources the decision was taken at the 53rd NEC meeting last week where Chief Ministers and Governors of all the NE states attended.
The meeting resolved to safeguard the regional character of the North East Policy Academy, sources said.
The NEC's regional health institutions, a committee under the chairmanship of Manipur government had been constituted in the meeting. The committee would examine and recommend specific reasons for the retention of regional character and autonomy of the institutions, sources added.
Meanwhile, the ongoing insurgency problems were creating hinderances in the developmental activities in the NE region and hence NEC is convening a special session to discuss security related issues.
NEC had also decided to work out a sector-wise schedule of meetings of the Council, which would begin from January 2007 to April 2008, sources said.
