Muslims need incentives not reservation:Congress

Ranchi, Nov 19 (UNI) AICC's Minority Cell chairman Imran Kidwai today said the Justice Sachhar Commitee, which was formed to find out the social and economical status of Muslims in the country, has not made any recommendation for separate reservation policy.

Critisicing the BJP over its stand on Committee report, he stressed the need for a new strategy for upliftment of Muslims.

Coming down heavily on the BJP, Mr Kidwai said there was no need to make any ''hue and cry'' on the report as it was just a survey and it had nothing to do with a reservation poly.

Referring to the constitutional provisions, he said the Congress party was also against any separate reservation policy based on religion, adding only incentives could be given to socially and economically backward people.

The Congress party was ready for a debate on the issue in Parliament during the winter session beginning on November 22, Mr Kidwai said.

The Sachhar committee in its report, noted that only 6 per cent of the Muslims' total population had government jobs, while in Jharkhand they were only three per cent.

Accusing the erstwhile NDA government of Jharkhand for this, Mr Kidwai said various minority boards such as Waqf, Urdu academy and the Minority Finance Corporation had not been constituted in the last six years, and demanded the Madhu Koda government should do so without any delay.
