'Iron Barrel' found in sea off Mamallapuram coast

Kancheepuram (Tamil Nadu), Nov 19: Fishermen of Alambarai hamlet near Mamallapuram here today fished out a floating giant 'Iron Barrel' from the sea and handed over it to the police.

Police said the fishermen, who ventured out into the sea, were surprised to find a 20ft length, ten ft high and ten ft breadth sized 'Iron Barrel' floating in the sea and towed it to the shore.

With police informing the matter to Navy, it was said that the Navy was probing the issue and suggested that the barrel could have been used to keep bombs inorder to destroy the ships.

Further investigation was underway to find out the whereabouts of the barrel, police added.
