Kashmir highway reopens, traffic resumes from both sides

Srinagar, Nov 19 (UNI) Traffic on the 300-km-long Srinagar-Jammu national highway resumed after being suspended yesterday due to landslides and shooting of stones triggered by heavy rains.

A traffic police official told UNI that Border Roads Organisation (BRO) cleared the landslides from the highway between Ramban and Ramsu after pressing into service sophisticated machinery and men.

All the stranded vehicles on the highway, the only road linking the Kashmir valley to the rest of the country, were allowed to proceed towards their respective destinations last evening.

He said vehicles from Jammu and Srinagar were allowed to ply this morning as the highway has been declared safe by BRO, responsible for the maintainance of the highway.
