India, China to sign Investment Protection Pact
New Delhi, Nov 19: India and China will sign an agreement on Investment Protection during the three-day State visit of Chinese President Hu Jintao here from tomorrow, officials said.
The bilateral Investment Promotion and Protection agreement will increase the investment between the two countries and be in force for 10 years.
Besides, several trade-related agreements are also expected to be signed between the two countries.
India has signed similar agreements with the UK, Russia, Germany, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Spain and Thailand.
The Chinese President, who begins his State visit from Tuesday with a ceremonial reception at Rashtrapati Bhavan, will have a meeting with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on several bilateral, regional and international issues.
The meeting with the Prime Minister will be followed by delegation-level talks between the two countries.
The agreements will be signed after the talks.
The same evening, Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee will call on him which would be followed by a call on by UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi.
Vice President Bhairon Singh Shekhawat will also call on him.
He will also participate in the Commemoration of China-India Friendship Year.
Mr Hu will meet President A P J Abdul Kalam the same evening.
The next day, Leader of Opposition in Lok sabha L K Advani will call on him in the morning.
He will later depart for Agra and Mumbai.
