Haryana DGP for stringent action against corrupt cops

Karnal, Nov 19 (UNI) Haryana Director General of Police (DGP) Ranjiv Dalal today warned that stringent action would be taken against police personnel indulging in corrupt practices and trying to take the law in their hands.

Directions had been issued to the police chiefs of all districts to take steps to make the policing system effective and foolproof, he said while addressing mediapersons here.

'' There is no provision for illegal practices in the police force, be it at any level,'' he added.

On recent recruitment exercise carried out in the police, he said it was absolutely fair. The delay in recuirtment of constables was due to heavy turn out of candidates, he added.

On the law and order situation, he said it was by and large under control. There are only about ten most wanted criminals in the state, he informed.

Answering a query on the growing number of murders in the state, he said, ''they are dangerious, when they are carried out by professionals''. He said that the state police was always vigilant against the nefarious designs of the terrorists.

He said he was deadly against the highway jams and methods were being evolved to check this problem. Another priority of his would be to evolve a health rapport between the police and the public, he added.

He said that police officers should not be sensitive to adverse news reporting and should work hard for improving the law and order situation in the state and the image of the police force. '' I do not see anything wrong in sting operations by television channels, provided such actions highlight the truth'', he added.
