Weavers loans to be scrapped: Modi

Patna, Nov 17(UNI) The Bihar government today announced to waive loans of weavers in 22 districts of the state under a welfare scheme.

Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi told newspersons here that the decision to scrap the loan was taken following a direction issued by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.

He said the government would pay the principal amount to the tune of Rs 11,014 lakhs of the loan dues against 12,309 weavers and the concerned banks have agreed to waive off the interest of Rs 853.68 lakhs on the loan amount.

Mr Modi said the government would pay Rs 87.08 lakh to the SBI, Rs 2.38 lakh to the United Bank, Rs 22.28 lakh to Union Bank, Rs 140.8 lakh to UCO bank, Rs 52.84 lakh to Central bank of India, Rs 181.89 lakh to PNB and Rs 614.1 lakh to the rural and cooperative banks as principal amount of the loan taken by the weavers.

With this decision the weavers of Patna, Nalanda, Gaya, Jamui, Bhagalpur, Purnia, supaul, Samastipur, Madhubani, Siwan, Sheohar, Eastand West Champaran, Gopalganj, Kaimoor, Bhojpur, Buxar and Nawada would be free from the debt.
