Volkswagen to set up manufacturing facility at Chakan
Mumbai, Nov 18 (UNI) Volkswagen today announced it will set up a new manufacture unit in India at Chakan near Pune.
The decision to this effect was approved by the company's supervisory board, a statement said.
Though no final decision has been reached about the production capacity or the investment, the proposed project was expected to provide jobs to 2,500 people. Small cars will be produced from 2009, the company added.
The company said that after surveying various sites in the country, the Pune site was found perfect for the project.
It also said it plans to spend 31.55 billion dollars between 2007 and 2009 on its global automotive operations, which include the Audi, Skoda, SEAT, Lamborghini, Bentley and Bugatti brands.
