Three persons killed, police station set on fire

Guwahati, Nov 18 (UNI) At least three people were killed, two of them children in police firing, and a police station was set on fire by a violent mob in Asom's Morigaon district today.

Official sources here said the police opened fire when they failed to control the mob, who attacked the Moirabari police station and torched it.

The mob carried out the arson attack when the two children fell to death in the police firing. In the melee another person was killed and four others received serious injuries.

The injured were admitted to a nearby hospital.

Police failed to disperse the mob, who attacked the police station to get free a motor cycle seized by the policemen earlier.

Then the swelling crowd set the police station on fire.

Senior officials reached to the spot to control the situation after firing and killing fueled tension in the area.

One victim was identified as Rakib (6), police added.
