Spirituality alone could bring peace: Shivra Patil

Thrissur, Nov 18 (UNI) Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil today said that even though the country had achived tremendous progress in science and technology, spirituality was the only way to attain permanent peace.

Speaking at a function held in connection with the sacerdotal golden jubilee celebration of Thrissur Archbishop Mar Jacob Thoomkuzhi, he said spirituality could remove curruption and violence from society.

Appreciating the services rendered by the Christian community to strengthen secular India, he said the community had also made significant contributions in the educational and health sectors.

Mr Patil offered felicitation to Mar Thoomkuzhi by describing him as a model of service and love.

Catholic Bishops Conference of India (CBCI) Vice-President Archbishop Isaac Mar Clemis presided over the function.

AICC Secretary Tom Vadakken and various church leaders also offered felicitation to Mar Thoomkuzhi.

The Home Minister was accompanied by his son Sailesh and his wife Archana.
