Rs 50 lakh ransom money recovered in Anant case
Lucknow, Nov 18: The Special Task Force (STF) of Uttar Pradesh police tonight recovered Rs 50 lakh, which were reportedly paid as ransom for securing the release of Adobe India CEO Naresh Gupta's son Anant, from village Bailana under in Bulandshahr District.
The recovery came after the interrogation of Jitendra alias Babloo, one of the accused in the case who was arrested earlier today, STF sources said.
They said Anant's family has admitted to paying Rs 60 lakh to the kidnappers adding they were still on the lookout for the remaining Rs 10 lakh.
Earlier, the STF had denied that any ransom was paid in the case.
Bringing to an end the five-day ordeal of Anant, police today secured his safe release from what they described as Delhi-based ''amateur kidnappers'' at Bhulandshahr-Noida border and arrested one person (Jitendra).
However, the main accused Chhatrapal alias Dev and two of his associates -- Pawan and Vijay Chauhan -- are yet to be arrested, said Inspector General of Police (Meerut Range) N B Singh.
''The joint operation of the Uttar Pradesh Police and Special Task Force rescued the child at about 1130 hrs. We have arrested one person Jitendra alias Babloo, who is among the four people involved in the sensational kidnapping,''he told a newsconference.
