Pondy minister resigns

Puducherry, Nov 18 (UNI) Puducherry Social Welfare Minister P Angalan resigned from the ministry late this evening.

Chief Minister N Rangasamy told UNI that Mr Angalan had tendered his resignation letter.

It may be noted that a case under section 498 (a) of IPC has been registered against him on a complaint from his wife Kavipriya that he had harassed and tortured her.

Mr Angalan had obtained anticipatory bail earlier and surrendered before the court and was granted bail.

It is learnt that the Congress High Command had directed him to step down.

It is not immediately known if the Chief Minister has accepted the resignation letter.
