Jihadi elements plan to create terror in India: BSF

Shillong, Nov 18 (UNI) The BSF has been keeping an extra vigil along the Indo-Bangladesh border following reports of Jihadi elements planning to cross over and create terror in the country.

''I have directed my men to maintain a strict vigil along the border,'' Inspector General of BSF in-charge Asom, Meghalaya, Manipur and Nagaland frontier Jyoti Prakash Sinha today said, confirming reports of that Harkat-ul-Jihad-e-Islam (HUJI) terrorists were planning to inter India via Dhubri in Asom.

''HUJI, which shares a close-proximity with the Al-Qaeda, had held meetings with the Asom-based Muslim United Liberation Tigers of Assam (MULTA) militant outfit in Bangladesh to carry out terror activities in India,'' Mr Sinha told UNI here.

''We have already established their linkages and activities of HUJI and MULTA,'' he said, adding that both the terrorist groups are being supported by the Pakistani Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) and Bangladeshi Director General of Field Intelligence (DGFI).

He added that the BSF had already taken all necessary steps to prevent these elements from crossing over to India.

In recent years, Mr Sinha said MULTA had been able to send hundreds of youth from Asom for guerrilla warfare training in Pakistan and Afghanistan via Bangladesh with the full support of the ISI.

Expressing concern, Police Chiefs of the North Eastern states besides, Sikkim and West Bengal had stressed on the joint efforts to deal with the threat posed by the Jihadi elements in the region in a just concluded meeting.
